CMS and the Medicare FFS Program have scheduled a National 5010 Testing Week for August 22–26, 2011. National 5010 Testing Week provides an opportunity for us to test compliance efforts that are already underway.  This experience will give us feedback regarding any possible additional programming changes that we need to make and what advisories we can give our customers regarding data entry and record-keeping requirements.

What it means:

  • New coding for health care diagnoses and procedures required for use after Oct 1, 2013. Includes 155,000 codes instead of the 17,000 currently in the ICD-9 version. 

What’s happening at DBC:

  • Work will be done concurrently and after the 5010 update is complete,

  • Attend  workshops that are available on-line or over the phone to understand how this will affect you.  Many professional and trade associations are offering a variety of information, checklists and educational resources.
