Electronic Billing Options

Our philosophy regarding electronic billing:

DBC is a national leader in the development of on-line billing options. We have been selected as a primary test site by more Part A and Part B Medicare carriers than any other software vendor in the country.

  • All providers should be encouraged to replace paper billing with direct electronic submissions. While DBC still supports paper billing, including many state specific forms (NY State Attending Provider's Report, for example), our corporate mandate is to encourage all providers who use our software to move into the world of electronic billing.

  • DBC software supports the following electronic billing options:
Direct to Medicare via ANSI Standard 837
Almost all carriers, including those who only accept paper claims via Emdeon (formerly known as WebMD)
Direct to any carrier allowing and accepting NSF or Standard 837 direct submissions

  • Clinics must be provided with a single source billing solution.

Electronic Billing At DBC

One of the company's primary goals in the top half of the 90's was to move its users away from paper billing and into the superior technology of electronic claims submission. Because of this emphasis, which began in the early 90's, DBC was well ahead of most vendors in terms of its experience with electronic billing and with meeting the requirements of CMS, Medicare, the Blues, most Medicaids, many Worker's Comp carriers, and most other commercial carriers. In order to provide users with easy electronic access to all carriers, including those who do not as yet accept electronic submissions, DBC works with Emdeon (formerly known as WebMD) to provide our users across the country with one stop electronic billing services at very low rates.

Some of DBC's accomplishments in the area of electronic billing include:

  • We have supported the CMS mandated ANSI Standard 837 format for electronic data which is a requirement for Medicare submissions for years.
  • DBC has supported CMS's National Standard Format (NSF) since it first went into use.
  • DBC has supported Medicare PART A electronic submissions via the new Standard 837 data format. According to the Part A carriers with whom we had tested, DBC was the first software vendor to provide generic Medicare PART A 837 support.

What does all of this convenience and technology cost? Direct Medicare submissions are FREE!

Submissions to other commercial carriers who will not accept direct submissions, but who are part of NEIC, can be done for for a per claim rate of less than the cost of a postage stamp!

HIPAA and DBC

DBC began developing the  ANSI 837 format almost a decade ago.  This "new" HIPAA format isn't so new after all.   For those that were paying attention to the change in standards, the latest HIPAA compliant version was simply an upgrade to the newer version of the ANSI 837  that was being developed nearly a decade ago.   DBC has been preparing for the HIPAA changes (directly and indirectly) for many years.  DBC's users are will receive the HIPAA update free of charge as their states are approved.   If your experience is not the same with your current system give us a call and discover why so many clients have stayed with us for nearly 18 years through many changes in Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) standards.
